  • Date:Thursday 5th August, 2010 12:00am

Metropolitan Works, part of London Metropolitan University, is pleased to announce that it will host a new product exhibition for this year’s London Design Festival alongside Tom Dixon’s stunning design studio in Portobello Dock in West London.

The exposition will showcase the selected products from June’s Metamorphosis competition, which saw 50 designers submit product ideas and undergo the cutting-edge New Product Development Programme (NPD) that will be offered through the Centre as of autumn 2010.

The eight chosen winners are working with NPD experts over the summer to develop prototypes using Metropolitan Works’ advanced digital and traditional design and manufacturing facilities. Their final projects will be on show at this exhibition in advance of going to market.

1:1 Advice sessions for designers and product developers

In addition to the display, Metropolitan Works, funded by Upturn, will also be offering one-to-one, hour-long skills sessions for designers that are keen to develop new products themselves.

Anyone interested will get a chance to take a session that covers a number of areas from the full course, which is being led by product and furniture design consultant, Linden Davies.

Bookings for these sessions should be made through the Metropolitan Works website – stay tuned for more information.

New Product Development Programme

Metropolitan works has created the New Product Development programme to give professionals the knowledge to bring successful products to market.

From a business oriented perspective, the six-day course covers topics such as, developing a brief, ideation, managing design development, the value equation, lean production, intellectual property, pricing and costing.
