The award winning high quality furniture brand, the Isos Collection, launched a range of innovative new pieces at the NEC Furniture Fair in March 2007, uniting some of London’s finest design talent and manufacturing capability.
Showing for its third successful year, designers participating included Tomoko Azumi, Studio 212, Mark Gabbertas, Max Lamb, Tom Price, Martin Grierson, Wills Watson & Associates, &Made, Conscious Forms and Massimo Fenati.
The Isos Collection was first launched in 2005 under the direction of Furniture Works, and now includes mirrors, upholstery, occasional and dining furniture, cabinets, lighting and rugs. Designed to sit together as a range of complimentary products, each item also works beautifully as a stand-alone piece.
Two lighting designs were among the new products this year. Iconic designer Tomoko Azumi experimented with the light diffusing properties of paper to develop the Millefeuille light, which won the most Innovative Product award from Living Etc. Conscious Forms created the Orb light manufactured by QM in a cast terrazzo.
2007 also saw a new sideboard design from &Made. Manufactured by Andrew Stanley Woodworking in sweet chestnut, the design takes the traditional craft of wood turning and subverts it into an exciting new piece of furniture.
Eliot rugs by Massimo Fenati, manufactured by Stamp Creative, are die cut felt and come in three distinct designs, and a variety of rich, contemporary colours.
Mark Gabbertas designed a series of occasional tables entitled On the Corner. The table designs combine formed legs and a glass top, revealing a striking new innovation, as two seemingly oppositional materials are UV bonded with no apparent seams. The piece was manufactured by I-Glass, experts in UV bonding technology.
Once again, Isos has demonstrated the benefits and innovations which can result from collaborations between London designers and manufacturers working together to develop commercially viable pieces.
